Nestled in the heart of Sacramento, Da Fei Ge Restaurant offers an authentic Northern Chinese culinary experience that is both vibrant and deeply satisfying. Renowned for its masterful barbecue and rich clay pot dishes, this inviting eatery brings a true taste of Asia to Freeport Boulevard, serving bold flavors that linger lovingly on the palate.
Da Fei Ge’s menu is a carnivore's delight, with skewers that display an impressive array of meats including succulent BBQ chicken gizzards, tender lamb chops, flavorful pork belly, and perfectly grilled beef sticks. Each bite captures the smoky essence of open flame barbecue, harmonizing tender juiciness with a subtle char. The chicken skin skewers—a textural marvel—offer a crispy, addictive crunch that customers rave about, while the spicy wings provide just the right kick to ignite your appetite without overwhelming the senses.
The clay pot rice dishes here are an experience unto themselves. Served in generous portions (even the “small” is plenty for two), these pots brim with comforting combinations like savory spareribs bathed in black bean sauce, peppered beef, and tantalizing eel. The slow cooking in the clay pot locks in layers of flavor and creates an irresistible crust at the bottom—a beloved hallmark of this cuisine. Side dishes such as the refreshing smashed cucumber salad add bright contrast, rounding out the meal beautifully.
The atmosphere at Da Fei Ge is cozy and unpretentious, with a modest dining area featuring communal benches that foster a welcoming, casual vibe. It’s the kind of place where the focus remains squarely on the food, yet the friendly and accommodating staff ensure that every visit feels personal and warm. While the signage and menus may lean toward Chinese characters, the staff’s hospitality bridges any language gap effortlessly, making the dining experience smooth and enjoyable.
Guests have shared glowing reviews that highlight not only the food but the entire sensory journey here. From the delightfully salty and addictive chicken wings to the freshness of the oysters and the heartiness of BBQ squid skewers, it’s clear that Da Fei Ge leaves a lasting impression. Though some mention that service isn’t flashy, the genuine care and authenticity shine through, creating a homely ambiance that beckons you back time and again.
Whether you're craving a late-night feast or a hearty, comforting meal with friends, Da Fei Ge Restaurant stands out as a must-visit gem for lovers of Chinese barbecue and clay pot delicacies. Its rich flavors, generous portions, and sincere warmth combine to craft a dining experience that feels both adventurous and familiar—an honest celebration of flavor that resonates deeply with every bite.
I love the BBQ here especially the pork belly, squid, and chicken skin. I ordered the spicy version but it's not too spicy just a medium flavor that everyone can enjoy. The clay pot rice comes in a large pot and even the small size is still big for two people.
This is a really good authentic Northern Chinese cuisine experience. This restaurant is known for their bbq skewers and clay pot experience. There are so many bbq kabobs to choose from. You can have the pork belly skewers which are very yummy (pictured). You can have the clay pot with the egg and peppered beef and you can even have the cucumber salad on the side (pictured). And for desert you can have the fried bun (pictured). The inside of the restaurant is small with bench style seating. There’s a tiny outside side patio with plastic chairs so you can have a seat outside.
Came here again was craving some grill sticks. Everything came out promptly, and the lady who manages the front room was friendly and efficient. Heads up, the chicken wings can be a little salty but addicting at the same time. Chicken skin sticks are good. You'll want to eat a bunch. Oysters was tasty, not overcooked. Too bad they don't sell a side of rice because that would have me eating even more if they did. Everything had great flavor. Definitely be back.
Food was great for a late night munch. Dining area is quaint and a bit small, bigger benches can seat about 6-8. The preparation options aren't in English but the lady working the counter is very nice and accommodating.
Delicious food! Service not a priority but it feels and tastes like home. Get the clay pot!! Big enough for two people to share. Lamb skewers are delicious! A bit on the pricey side though.
A small unique chinese street food restaurant in Downtown Sacramento. Please do not come if you are dare to eat chicken kidney/ liver/ heart, duck jaw to pigtail, sea snail or even ox pizzle. 10/10 for food quality and customer service. Try their complimentary herb tea. It's really good light sweet herbal tea well combined with chinese seasoned food. They also have really good chinese soup with different type of protein which you may freak out to read the name. We always want to try everything and bill is always $100 for 2. Be ready for that small - small skewer add up to big bill. But trust me. It's really good to try and worth money. Completely satisfied! Tip: please call ahead to make sure store's opened for weekdays. Sometime slow business, the owner closed a little bit earlier than closing time posted online.
We went here for Sunday lunch because we craved for a clay pot rice. This small restaurant is at the corner of a food complex with other businesses. As soon we sat down, the lady asked which clay pot we wanted since it took quite a while to cook it. So, we immediately ordered 2 of them. It took us about 20 mins for our food but we already expected it. - ribs with black bean sauce clay pot: it was good. There were lots of ribs pieces but it could have more black bean sauce as it was a bit bland. - eel clay pot: my favorite! The eels had sweet taste and were well cooked (not chewy). Overall, the clay pot rice was good but we wish that there were more crispy rice at the bottom. They gave extra soy sauce to pour on top of the rice but I wish that they gave more of it. The complimentary tea was good too. The one on the right had a slight sweetness while the one on the left was very herbal.
A hidden gem of Sac. The clay pots are super delicious and flavorful since the meats were marinated so well. There is always a crispy rice layer at the bottom of the pot if you're a fan of crunchy rice! Their BBQ skewers are just addicting, especially the spices powder they use to coat the meats. The prices are pretty fair and slightly cheaper than other places in this inflation period in my opinion. They also have outdoor seating. The restaurant is located in a small and nice plaza with enough parking for customers.
